The
Country of Bergerac, sometimes named Périgord Pourpre
offers a vast field of tourist investigation so much its
territory is large and rich of regional characteristics.
It often represents the Door of entry of Périgord and
thus sees a great number of visitors making halt there in
order to organize the continuation of their stay.
“The
landscape of Bergerac conceals the treasures of a memory
open to the walkers. Of country house in country houses
and mills in castles, in fact the time goes up a water
court”. The Country of Bergerac, it is also the Country
of the Country houses, these “new” cities create of
all parts at the end of XIIIème century by English or by
French, engaged in a very long war. Monpazier presents the
hardest aspect of this rather widespread characteristic
architecture in great South-west. Lalinde, Eymet,
Beaumont, Molières, Villeréal and Castillonnès each one
is singular and offers a different charm. The medieval
village of Issigeac still presents a decoration of another
age and brings back carefully for you towards Bergerac.
Area hinge enters the Dordogne and the Gironde; country of
Montaigne, Gardens of Sardy or the Gallo-Roman villa of
Montcaret into present a promising outline.
Dominating the valley, the castle of Monbazillac, jewel of
architecture Rebirth, however shows many medieval military
characteristics (machicolation, openings of shooting,
ditches, etc) it allows to combine cultural, gastronomical
and wine tourism.
In another style, the castle of Lanquais will also allure
him by its character authenticates and its furnishing
which gives rise to think that the occupants, centuries
after centuries continue to live the places.
